John Murphy, the founder of this session, passed recently after a lengthy bout with cancer. Now, these sessions are being led by Karen Berry (flute player). These are intermediate level Traditional Irish Music sessions held at Steve’s Wine Bar  in Denton. Sessions are held on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 2-5 p.m. The public calendar may be found here:  Google Calendar . Where there are changes of time or location, they are noted on this calendar and sent to the session email list.

Participants must play traditional Irish music instruments: fiddle, whistle, flute (Irish flute, not C orchestral flute), bodhran (Irish drum), uilleann pipes (Irish pipes, not the Scottish bagpipes), harp, concertina, guitar, banjo, bouzouki, button accordion, piano accordion, or hammered dulcimer.

We play many of the 21 tunes on the Intermediate list on the Music page of this website at a medium tempo. We draw many tunes from the three tune books published by the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat (also found on the Music page of this website). Participants are welcome to suggest new repertoire.

The session is sponsored by the Texas Irish Music Education Society.
