Welcome to Dallas Slow Sessions. We are a small group of musicians in the D/FW metroplex with a passion for playing Celtic music at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. We provide a fun, learning environment for you to play traditional Irish music.
We are currently meeting in Jim’s apartment living room on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. We currently have about 5 to 6 people attending. Our first hour is used to play the Basic 10 tunes and the second hour we play whatever tune that 2 or more people know. We sometimes include at least one tune to learn by ear as traditionally all students in Ireland learn without written music.
The Intermediate Session meets every 2nd and 4th Friday from 7:00pm until 9:00pm. The second Friday meeting is held at The Coffee House Café in Dallas. The fourth Friday meeting is held at The Rosalind Coffee Shop in Garland, Texas.
This is an intermediate level session and all people who play traditional Irish music at an intermediate level (about 80-100 bpm), on acoustic instruments that are traditionally considered Irish music instruments (flute, penny whistle, fiddle, etc.) are welcome to join us.
The Advanced Sessions meets on the 1st Friday from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at The Rosalind Coffee Shop in Garland, TX. Our purpose is to share our fun music with a public that enjoys Traditional Iris music. Participation in this group is by invitation only. Participants are required to play the 18 Advanced Tune Set and all other music by memory and to play all tunes up to speed.
